Risk factors for a child developing cerebral palsy include but are not limited to:

Premature delivery

Low birth weight (less than 5 lb 8 oz)

Child does not do not cry soon after delivery

Child requires a ventilator after birth

Baby develops a brain hemorrhage.

Seizures

Complications during pregnancy
Vaginal bleeding
Proteinuria
Preeclampsia
Hypertension- high blood pressure
Hyperthyroidism
Rh incompatibility

Abnormal presentation -Breech birth

Labor and delivery complications – lack of oxygen or abnormal fetal heart rate

Multiple births -twins

Low APGAR score

Viral infections during pregnancy
